CENTRALP, world leader of embedded electronic systems & software for the railway industry, has achieved SIL2 certification for its latest K-Vision range.

The mobility transition in the railway sector requests solutions more and more autonomous solutions. Requirements for reliability are increasing, leading to a high demand for operational safety on critical functions.

SIL2 certified K-Vision

The SIL2 certification obtained by CENTRALP for its K-Vision seeks to ensure the reliability of the HMI for the following functions:

• Display: CENTRALP K-Vision SIL2 ensures the correct display of icon or text message on the screen. The CENTRALP DMI can also be used to secure the display of complex graphic items such as speedometers or braking level indicators.
  • Driver’s actions: The K-Vision SIL2 certification also takes into account the driver’s actions control. For each action on the touchscreen, the safety unit evaluates, translates and validates the request into a secured function to control the train.

In case of deviation, a safety response is activated decreasing the risk of missing or misinterpreting data presented to the pilot.

CENTRALP has certified its product as a generic platform which can accommodate any SIL0 HMI without compromising the SIL2 certification. The certificate covers hardware and low layers, securing the display and allowing to receive customed HMI developed in SIL0

Safety Integrity Level 2

In France, as in many other countries, rules and regulations impose safety criteria for people, installations and environment. The Safety Integrity Level (SIL) is an indicator of the risk-reduction provided by a safety function. Ranging from SIL1 to SIL4, it enables the risks associated with a safety function, system or component to be determined and an acceptable level of risk to be set for it (level 4 having the highest degree of integrity, level 1 the lowest).
